Glyfada
Glyfada, Natural gas works. B. Antonopoulou (ΚΣΤ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on rescue excavations conducted for the installation of natural gas pipes. The excavations were conducted by I. Pappas. A tile grave and two shaft graves were discovered at 14 Korai St. (Fig 1). The tile grave contained an oinochoe, and the shaft graves contained well-preserved skeletons. Numerous classical sherds and an area covered with rubble stones were found at 45 Themistokleous St. (Fig 2). A classical complex was discovered at 37-39 Artemidos St. (Fig 3). The complex consists of two rooms, one of which has a pebble floor. Two thresholds were revealed. More Classical building remains (specifically two walls delimiting a room) were found at 35-37 Artemidos St. (Fig 4). Numerous Classical sherds and walls were found on Phoebes St. (Fig 5). A well was discovered and left unexcavated at 22 Themistokleous St. (Fig. 6). A quarry was found at 28 Ious st. Other finds contain walls and sherds. A pyre containing fragments from black-glazed lekythoi was excavated at 11 Thelxinois St. 13 more graves were found at 5-9 Klemanso and 9 Giannitsopoulou Streets (Fig 7). These include two pit graves, 2 inurned cremations and 9 pyres. The latter were contained within an enclosure. The burials contained few offerings, all of which are dated in the Classical period.
