Description
Aigeira, Phelloe Street (property of P. Oikonomou). E.-I. Kolia (Στ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the discovery of five rooms of a fourth-century BC house in the eastern part of a plot located 16-17m northeast of the Efstathiou plot, where domestic remains of the same date were found. The walls, of two rows of large and medium stones worked on the exterior faces, with a fill of small stones and soil, were preserved to a height of 0.5-0.6m (0.4m wide), and the inside faces were plastered. Corinthian-type tiles from the rook were scattered over the entire area. Part of the andron was found at the eastern edge of the plot, with a floor of pink plaster laid on a foundation of gravel and pebbles, and a slightly raised platform for the couches. In the middle of the east wall was the entrance to the prothalamos, a room (3.1 x 1.8m) which also had a plaster floor, and the threshold of a wooden door in the north wall (one of the two edge stones preserved in situ had a cutting for the doorpost). The other rooms west, south and north of the prothalamos were very poorly preserved. The destruction level, which presented strong evidence of fire, contained tile and pottery.
