VEROIA - 2007

Veroia. Four graves of the 3rd Ct AD were discovered during construction work on G. Seferis street. They belong to a larger cemetery of this period located in the 1960s in the extramural W part of the anc. city. Gold and bronze jewellery, weapons, coins, pottery vessels, and glass cosmetic vessels were recovered. I. Graikos and the surgeon L. Pavlides are quoted as reporting signs of trauma from trepanation on the cranium of one young woman (ca. 25 years of age): the reason for this complex and skilled surgery remains unclear. The existence of clinical facilities in anc. Veroia has previously been attested in inscriptions.
