AIANE - 2008

Aiane. G. Karamitrou-Mendesidi (Director, Λ' ΕΠΚΑ) reports continuing excavation in the E cemetery. 243 tombs of the 2nd half of the 4th Ct BC include quantities of cosmetic items (jewellery containers, tweezers, perfume containers and 2 dove figurines, as well as pottery and gold jewellery), along with medical equipment. In a male burial, a shallow rectangular container made of a copper and lead alloy, with a handle and containing a small bowl, has 2 parallels in the Aiane area and one further counterpart in clay. These are conjectured to be for mixing different substances, perhaps for medical prescriptions.
