PYLOS, Palace of Nestor - 2013

Pylos, Palace of Nestor. S. Stocker (ASCSA/ Cincinnati) reports on continuing excavation in collaboration with the ΛΗ ΕΠΚΑ in preparation for the construction of a new roof over the Palace of Nestor. Fifteen trenches were excavated northwest of the Palace in the Wine Magazine (Rooms 104 and 105) and to the southeast in Court 88. Excavation was carried down to sterile soil, with cultural deposits in the northeast ranging up to 2m deep and those in the southwest only to 0.75m. Walls that predate the final Late Helladic IIIB Palace were revealed, the earliest belonging to the late Middle Helladic period. Most excavated strata are earlier than LH IIIB.
