Description
Sikyon. I. Lolos (ASA) reports that the first season of a new campaign of excavation south east of the south stoa revealed part of the Late Roman settlement. The complex revealed was largely built of spolia from earlier structures, with modifications made over a long period of time. It included a stable and facilities for the processing of agricultural produce (a treading floor and an olive press). A modern lime kiln was built in it.
In the long stoa first excavated by Orlandos in 1952, excavation in three shops confirmed that the stoa was built in the Early Hellenistic period chiefly using spolia from earlier buildings. It remained in use (at least in part) until the seventh century AD.
Southeast of the stoa, a long wall described as a stylobate had been previously excavated but not published. New investigated confirmed that it is the stylobate of a colonnade which formed the monumental frame for a road. The colonnade was later closed in with stone blocks and column capitals.
