ELATOVRYSI - 2005

Elatovrysi (Papaioannou property). Ph. Saranti (ΛΣτ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the discovery of a small Hellenistic structure at Skiada-Rougaki, south of the village of Elatovrysi. Traces of several walls were found on the left of the road to the village (a road which likely destroyed other parts of the settlement). The walls were analemmatic, and in several cases ancient walls formed the foundations of modern. One wall, preserved to a length of 8.25m and a width of 0.7m, and built of largely, roughly squared blocks with a fill of smaller stones, was cleaned, along with a second, of sandstone blocks, preserved to a maximum length of 2.1m and width of 0.5m. No other antiquities were found in the area destined for construction, but sections of pithos were built into ruined buildings in the surrounding region. An ancient foundation was preserved close to the church of Agia Paraskevi nearby.
