Description
Kato Potamia, Erimo Chorio. E.-I. Kolia (Στ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the discovery of a Late Geometric pithos burial south of the road to Kato Potamia. The pithos (1.3m tall) contained a supine inhumation with two oinochoae, a kantharos, an askos, an iron dagger and spearhead, and a bronze ring. It was closed with a sherd of another pithos.
Survey revealed the remains of destroyed tombs on the slope east of the road and probably the bank of the Krathis river. West of the road were settlement remains, probably of a previously unknown kome. Surface remains included a large quantity of tiles plus pottery including Classical wares. Foundations of buildings and retaining walls were found but no evidence of fortification. In a higher part of the settlement, a large (probably public) building measured 37.8x22.3m. A second structure on the same orientation was visible to the east.
