Description
Kato Alissos (Psinia and Sparaki-Stroubouta properties). A. Vasilogamvrou (Στ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the discovery of an Early Geometric cemetery which contained both inhumation and cremation burials and extended over two neighbouring plots.
In the northeast part of the Psinia plot was an inhumation in a cist grave (T5) without goods, and three burial containers (a hydria with Geometric decoration and two plain amphorae). The amphora Π3 contained cremated remains and was closed with a pithos sherd. The amphora Π4 contained an enchytrimos and was closed in the same way. The hydria Π1 contained a few child’s teeth and a small pot. Between Π1 and Π4 was a structure of unworked stones (1.2x0.5m) of uncertain function. In the west of the plot was a pithos burial: a woman in highly contracted position was laid on a layer of large pithos sherds and covered with half of a pithos (which was decorated with finger impressions). Grave goods comprised a bronze spiral and an iron pin placed at the left shoulder.
On the Sparaki-Stroubouta plot immediately to the west was a pit grave containing an inhumation set on its side, covered by half of a pithos. Beneath the humerus was a mass of iron, and at the throat an iron nail.
