PATRAS - 70 Tsamadou Street - 2001

Patras, 70 Tsamadou Street (Spiliopoulou property). M. Stavropoulou-Gatsi (Στ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the discovery of a section of Roman paved street running east-west with a pavement on its north side: its full width could not be exposed within the excavation area. The remainder of the plot was occupied by a hard deposit covered by a destruction layer containing tile, brick, much pottery, small items of bronze, bone and glass, and coins. A test through this revealed a wall parallel to the road with an unfluted column resting on it - part of a colonnaded roadside building. The road is likely that uncovered 100m to the west on Korinthou Street, which was also bordered by a colonnaded building (see ADelt 54 [1999] Chr 258).
