Description
Argos, Parodos Herakleous (property of S. Thanou). E. Pappi (Δ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the discovery of house remains connected with the Late Helladic settlement on the east slope of the Aspis. In the northwest of the plot, immediately under later buildings, were two Middle Helladic (I and II) pithos burials. One, which had many clamp repairs, was set upright, stabilised with stones in a layer of clay, and closed with a basin. It contained the disarticulated bones of at least two probably male adults (perhaps with a third youth), and three Adriatic style black-burnished closed vessels. The second pithos was on its side, closed by many vessel fragments piled by the mouth – three black-burnished lekanes, a handle with a potter’s mark, an amphora and a cookpot. It contained three crania and disarticulated bones, a black-burnished pyxis and two Adriatic style closed vessels.
