Description
Argos, Diomedes and Megalou Alexandrou Streets (O.T. 15B, property of I. Alexopoulou). Ch. Piteros (Δ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the discovery of Hellenistic and Roman walling, three refuse deposits, and burials. In the southwest of the plot lay two receptacles for Hellenistic cremation urns built of stone and cement. The first held a white-coated amphora which contained, in addition to the cremation, a gold myrtle or olive wreath, a gold danake with the impression of a coin of Sikyon depicting a dove in flight, a Hellenistic silver coin of Rhodes, a burnt iron ring with a bezel, a burnt pin, pieces of burnt iron items (including scissors and a conical spool), and a knucklebone. The burial dates to the first half of the third century BC. The second was poorly preserved: it contained seven lachrymateria and cremated remains, but the ash urn was not preserved.
A Hellenistic tile grave on the east of the plot contained an adult female inhumation with an ear-pick and a bronze pin.
Finds included pottery, lamps, loomweights, bronze coins, Hellenistic figurines, a terracotta base for a lampstand, an Archaic skyphos with figurative decoration, and a Roman lamp.
