Description
Moires. V. Sythiakaki and Z. Vasilakis (13th ΕΒΑ and ΚΓ’ ΕΠΚΑ) report the discovery of Late Roman/Early Byzantine building remains. The south side of the area was occupied by a storeroom containing 11 pithoi and two amphorae of a seventh/eighth-century AD type. To the north, three rooms of a bath complex were found. The two southern rooms contained a hypocaust, while the northernmost had thick waterproof plaster. The walls of the southernmost room were warmed with a flow of hot air, and the room had a domed or vaulted roof: the room to its north had a roof of wood and tile. The complex extended to the west where two phases can be discerned, although remains there were disturbed by a later building. Pottery from the bath and the first phase of the western rooms dates no earlier than the fifth century. A coin of Herakleios and pottery of sixth-eighth centuries came from the second phase floor of the western rooms. A bread seal with the name of the owner in sixth/seventh-century letter forms, a bone gaming piece and a glass unguentarium were also found.
