Description
Chamalevri, Pateras (Defteraiou property). M. Andreadaki-Vlazaki and E. Papadopoulou (ΚΕ’ ΕΠΚΑ) report continuing excavation of a Late Minoan IIIC building
The first phase, dating to the first half of the 12th century BC, is represented by an open space with small pits full of black earth, fineware vessels, tools and horns from agrimi and deer. In this period there was also a building to the west, now destroyed by a modern house. In phase 1b, a room (Στ) was built to the southwest and a potter’s kiln to the east. The room had three floor levels of which the lowest (belonging to phase 1) had traces of fire and several small finds (a cow figurine, a bronze ring and a spindle whorl). The surface of the open area outside also had signs of burning together with broken pots. In phase 2, the pits fell out of use, and six more rooms were added to room Στ to create a more substantial building. Each room had successive floor levels, and the final floors of several bore signs of intense burning. Objects on these final floors included jugs, cups, amphorae, lekanes, cooking pots, a tripod and a decorated pyxis. Four metres south of the building were two long stretches of wall with a narrow stone pavement between them.
