Description
Argyroupoli. I. Gavrilaki (ΚΕ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the discovery of a Hellenistic domestic building, also was used and repaired extensively in the Roman period, on the Loukogiogaki property. The destruction layer contained mosaic tesserae including some that had evidently fallen from a mosaic on the upper floor. The most characteristic pottery in a cistern found on the Sardelaki property dates to the Late Roman period. A rock-cut chamber tomb with three side-cists and a lower central chamber was uncovered at the Pente Parthenon cemetery. Although it was extremely disturbed, finds included bone, glass vessels, bronze coins, iron nails and a gold ring. Another chamber tomb with benches and niches along the walls was uncovered at ‘Tis nisfis i kolimpa’ in the broader area of the Roman cemetery of ancient Lappa.
