Description
Schisma Eloundas (Zapheiraki property). Ch. Sofianou (ΚΔ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the discovery of 19 graves, including two cists, eight tile graves, and six pits (variously covered with tiles and cover slabs), dating from the fourth century BC to the first/second century AD but disturbed in antiquity. They contained supine inhumations with the head to the east or west. In one case the head was supported by stones and the arms crossed at the neck. The finds consisted principally of terracotta and glass vases including unguentaria and squat lekythoi of the Bulas Group. One child was buried with astragaloi. Other finds included fragments of ivory objects, a bronze pin, a bronze coin and silver earrings. A fragment of an inscribed marble grave stele and two inscribed blocks (a common funerary marker in the area) were also recovered. The area is close to Alykes, where the cemetery of the polis of Olous has been located.
