ERMONES - 2002

Ermones (Panteleio and Mexa properties). G. Metallinou (Η’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on continuing excavation of the Bronze Age settlement which extends across two neighbouring plots. In sector Z on the Panteleio property, a large curved structure with walls of unworked stone was found with immediately to the east a child burial in cist grave (accompanied by a handmade coarse vessel and scattered animal bones). This is closely similar to the burial and wall found on sector E on the Mexi property in 2000, and is likely also Middle-Late Bronze Age in date. To the west of the structure was a large stone slab set upright, of uncertain function. In addition to Bronze Age pottery of the same types found in previous years, finds include Bronze Age chipped and ground stone tools, weaving equipment (weights and spools), and faunal remains.
