Description
Mastilitsa. G. Riginos (Η’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on continuing excavation of a rectangular (9x13m) building discovered on the top of the Mastilitsa hill in 2000. The building was completely exposed and the destruction deposit over it partially removed: this deposit contained a quantity of roof tile, a little pottery including two plain round aryballoi, two biconical terracotta spools, three iron spearheads, two swords, arrow heads, iron pins, two bronze anthemia, many bronze rings and other small items including part of a gold snake). The plan of the building, with a central area and a surrounding wing, supports its identification as a shrine. The walls are of well-worked blocks (two courses preserved), and it is likely that there were entrances on the south and east sides (the building is oriented east-west).
