Description
Sagiada, Border Station at Mavromati. G. Riginos (Η’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the discovery of an early modern fountain 15m from the station building. This is a simple construction of pink and white limestone slabs, surrounded by a Π-shaped enclosure in front of which was a semi-circular paved area. The fountain walls ranged in height from 0.4-0.65m. In the south wall was an offset water collection basin: a similar basin in the east wall was evidently closed off during the last phase of use. A section of the water supply line was found south of the fountain, built in part of limestone slabs and in part of terracotta pipes. The fountain and a section of the supply line were subsequently removed and displayed in the courtyard of the border station.
On the neighbouring hills to east and west, three cist tombs were found containing single, supine inhumations: one contained sherds of a small pot.
