Description
Darda, Zervochori. G. Riginos (Η’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the discovery of a Roman agricultural complex with at least five rooms or spaces, built of unworked stones in cement. In a short excavation season the building was not fully exposed, but it was evidently planned around a central court and entered via a doorway in the northwest corner. The floors were likely beaten earth, clay and pebble. North of the court were three smaller rooms, with a further one to the south which communicated directly with the court. These rooms were covered by a destruction deposit which contained rooftile, a little pottery and a very few metal items (mainly iron nails) and fragments of glass vessels. Seventeen Late Roman (third- to fifth-century AD) bronze coins were found. North of the building was an extensive stone mound and a simple pit grave containing the inhumation of an adult male with an iron fibula or clasp.
