Description
Agioi, Prodromou (Demou property). G. Riginos (Η’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the completion of excavation of the building complex discovered in 2000. Investigation beneath the bathtub revealed two successive floor levels corresponding with the two construction phases previously noted: the lower was of beaten earth and tile fragments, with a small paved area, the upper of fine gravel on a bedding of small stone. A destruction layer east of the rectangular building and pipeline system was removed: a layer of natural rock flakes beneath evidently served as the floor of a space no longer preserved. Also to the east of the building and the pipeline system, an extensive and (1m) thick deposit of black earth with marked traces of burning and dense concentrations of fine-quality pottery. This fill contained scattered stone piles and very poorly preserved sections of wall which could not be identified with buildings: their relationship to the rectangular building is also unclear. No further building remains were found north or west of that building. Finds include a large quantity of plain domestic pottery, a few Hellenistic black-glaze sherds, loomweights, masses of iron and iron nails, two terracotta female figurines, a fourth-century Corinthian silver drachma, and an early imperial Roman bronze coin.
