IGOUMENITSA - 2001

Igoumenitsa. G. Riginos (Η’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on further excavation within the area expropriated for the construction of the road connecting Igoumenitsa harbour with the Egnatia Odos (Ladochorio junction). An additional 12 tombs were found (8 tile graves and 4 cists, oriented southeast-northwest), some already largely destroyed during the construction work. They all contained adult inhumations, with the exception of the much smaller tomb 10 which was likely for a child. Only one (tomb 5) held offerings (a pair of bronze earrings). Coarseware and pithos sherds were found between and around the tombs.
