AI DRIA - Demos Lefkimmaion - 2001

Ai-Dria. K. Kanta-Kitsou (Η’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on rescue excavation on two plots in the same vicinity, in an area where a Hellenistic farmhouse had previously been located.

Property of S. Zervou. Five groups of stone mounds contained unworked stones, Late Roman-Early Christian domestic pottery (e.g. basins, pithoid vessels, chytres, a plate and a stand) and amphorae, and much shell. A further curved stone construction is likely part of a building.

Olive grove of V. Papaioannou. Brief excavation on a plot beside the main spring of Phoudana revealed a destruction deposit with three concentrations of unworked stones containing also pottery (transport amphorae, basins, a pithos and plain domestic pottery) and tile. A large quantity of rounded terracotta kiln props likely indicate a workshop in the vicinity (mounds of unfired clay were also found in the west of the plot). No date is reported.
