Description
Figareto, Kanoni. V. Soueref property. M. Nakou (Η’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the completion of excavation, with three building phases documented.
To the first, Archaic phase, belong part of the foundations of a house which continued east beyond the excavation area. Close to the northwest corner of the plot, a pit dug into the natural ground surface contained Archaic (/Late Archaic) sherds mostly of skyphoi and amphorae.
To the second belong a floor and walls of a (probably open-air) workshop (masses of iron are reported).
The final, Roman, phase is characterised by a layer densely packed with pottery, tile and stones, in places disturbed by modern incursions: there is also evidence of a wall.
Pottery of all three phases included plain, glazed and decorated wares, as well as more recent glazed and early modern wares. 162 Hellenistic and Roman bronze coins were found, most illegible. Two pieces of a bronze-covered bone flute were also recovered. Early Protocorinthian sherds found over stereo date the earliest activity on site.
