Description
Figareto, Kanoni. Dona-Desylla-Koskina-Matsouki-Skordili property. G.-K. Avgerinou (Η’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on excavation on the east side of the Hyllaian harbour, next to the Pouliasi and Giovani plots previously excavated. Domestic remains were found in a very disturbed (and thus chronologically confused) area: six walls likely date from the city’s reconstruction in Early Hellenistic times, and remained in use until the first century BC. Archaic and fifth-century sherds were scattered across the entire area. Finds include 18 bronze coins dating from 450/400 BC – 17 AD, part of a black glaze kylix (ca 525-500 BC), a black-glaze pyxis minus the lid (early fourth-century), a black-glaze fishplate (ca 325 BC), and a Hellenistic terracotta figurine of a dolphin. A very few stone tools (flakes) and a flint axe are of Neolithic-Bronze Age date.
