Description
Philippiada. Monastery of the Pantanassa. B. Papadopoulou (8th EBA) reports the discovery of 28 graves south of the katholikon, defined and covered with limestone slabs, oriented either north-south or east-west and mostly without goods. A very little pottery was recovered. Below them was a level with older, tile graves, again without goods. Architectural spolia were also found, including an Early Christian piece with relief decoration from the vestibule of the church, part of a corner column and a piece of marble revetment with relief decoration at the base of which were pieces of green and purple marble. East of the katholikon were three tombs, without goods and with skeletal remains in very poor condition. To the east of these, architectural spolia were collected. An area of stone pavement was found below the level of the krepidoma.
