Description
Arta (anc. Ambracia), Koutsomyta (Stamou property). A. Angeli (ΙΒ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the discovery of six tombs of different types belonging to the east cemetery of the city, on a plot adjacent to the Dimou property and southeast of the Charitou property.
Tombs I and IV were crudely made cist tombs preserving no bones or grave goods. Tomb II, a cist built of small limestone slabs, contained a single burial with a bronze dagger or spear. Tomb III, a pit grave, contained two black-glaze kylikes, and a Glaux skyphos which date the burial to the early fifth century. Tomb V, a limestone sarcophagus, contained a few scattered bones and early fifth-century sherds. Tomb VI, a crudely built cist, contained a single burial with a tripod pyxis, and a glass amphoriskos of Phoenician type dating to the first half of the fifth century. Finds outside the tombs comprise bronze and iron nails and sheet, two bronze coins, pieces of a male terracotta figurine, and a glass amphoriskos of Phoenician type.
