EPISKOPI, Serviana - 2010

Episkopi, Serviana. The IB’ ΕΠΚΑ reports the discovery of a small Hellenistic house complex or agricultural facility on the eastern slope of the hill, and a cemetery on the western slope. The central building of the complex served both residential and commercial purposes (a large quantity of transport amphorae was found). Forty-three graves were found in the cemetery, containing goods dating to the second and third centuries AD. In exactly the same area of the Roman cemetery was a Late Neolithic and Bronze Age establishment with pits containing a large volume of pottery and stone tools.

Further rescue excavation in 2010 a few metres south of the central building of the complex revealed the foundations of a Late Hellenistic rectangular building (20x13m) which contained two kilns or ovens (with a further one outside the building). A collection of Neolithic pits was also excavated south of those previously found. Most contained refuse but two were dug-out houses.
