Description
Apokoronas - Georgioupolis - Plot “Asteras A.E.”. Michalis Milidakis (Ephorate of Antiquities of Chania) reports on a rescue excavation that revealed Roman-period remains and abundant pottery within the settlement of Georgioupolis. Trial trenches initially revealed large quantities of Roman pottery, leading to a systematic excavation of the northern part of the plot (Fig. 1). The excavation produced abundant Roman pottery, bones and small metal objects, as well as a burnt layer with charcoal and tile fragments, a group of broken vessels and roof tiles, and a small Roman bronze coin. A dense concentration of Roman pottery and a floor made of closely arranged roof-tile fragments were also identified (Fig. 2).
