Aigina - Hellanion Oros. Stella Chrysoulaki (Ephorate of Antiquities of Piraeus and islands) and Tobias Krapf (ESAG), Leonidas Bokotopoulos – Sophia Michalopoulou – Jérôme André (University of Lausanne), report on the fifth season of a five-year project on Hellanion Oros in Aigina, a synergasia between the Ephorate of Antiquities of Piraeus and islands and ESAG. The research took place at the area north of the chapel of the Ascension, where buildings belong to the late Bronze Age (early 12th century BC). Two new fortifications were identified on promontories along the southern coast, and just below the summit of Hellanion Oros, a previously unexplored monumental complex was partially cleared and mapped. An initial trial trench confirmed its dating to the Mycenaean period. The excavation yielded at least one complete vase, a bronze knife, and other metal objects, as well as traces of metallurgical activity. Numerous remnants of worship including burned bones and offerings were discovered in the area.
