Description
Athens. Cemetery beside the road from the Eriai Gate to the Kolonos Hippios. Burials were found in two locations.

Plateia Avdi. A. Kokkoliou (Γ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the discovery of five tombs ca. 3m from Myllerou 24. A cluster of tile graves of the mid-fifth century BC was revealed within a shallow trench.
Junction of Myllerou 24 and Kerameikou. Th. Iliopoulos (Γ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on excavation in the basement of this property which revealed a cluster of six Classical tombs.
Tomb 1: an elliptical cutting in the rock (1.2 x 0.8m) filled with modern debris and a few fragments of lekythoi.
Tomb 2: a deep pit cut into the rock (1.5 x 1.1 x 0.9m) containing a pyre with burnt sherds of one or two white-ground lekythoi (one fragment has a hoplite beside a funerary stele) and other small pots, as well as bronze fragments.
Tomb 3: a tile grave in a shallow trench (1.3 x 0.5 x 0.35m). A coin was placed at the waist of the body, while outside the covering were a scraper and a lekythos.
Tomb 4: a small clay larnax (1.15 x 0.33 x 0.2m) containing one skull, and outside (perhaps unrelated to the larnax) a limestone false alabastron.
Tomb 5: found destroyed, but perhaps originally a simple pit containing a skull, remains of small bones, and a lekythos.
Tomb 6: a damaged limestone sarcophagus.
Built into the inner walls of the property were an unusually large number of marble spolia, including a funerary stele (0.86 x 0.28 x 0.15m) inscribed ΕΥΠΟΡΙΑ ΧΑΙΡΕ, part of an octagonal kioniskos, and part of an Ionic column base.
