Kallithea (70 Kolokotroni street) - 2022

Eirini Skiaderesi (Ephorate of Antiquities of Piraeus and Islands) reports on an rescue excavation in Kallithea.

At 70 Kolokotroni str. in Kallithea a wall of retaining use was found (fig. 1). It used to contain the successive river streams which flowed from north to south. In its northern part it has a concave outline and the stones have a mild gradient to the East. In the most part it is built with raw stones and it dates back to the Hellenistic period. The search brought to light a plethora of finds dating back to historical eras from the late geometric, archaic, classical to the Hellenistic period, among which a type 1a handmade figurine dating back from the 7th to 6th century BC (fig. 2) and a dinos sherd with painted rosettes, on the shoulder, dating back to the beginning of the 6th century BC.
