Marathon - Brexiza - 2021
Marathon, Marathonas
Iphigeneia Dekoulakou (ASA) reports on continued excavation on the West part of the central building. The building shows signs of damage by use and modifications at later periods; important quantities of marble chips attest the extraction of marble stones to be used for lime production in later periods. Among this material, pottery and lamp sherds were collected, attesting use of the building in 2nd/3d century AD. One of the lamp sherds had relief decoration and was inscribed with the (partial) name of the workshop owner LOUKIOS. Further North, an untouched layer of Corinthian tiles and collapsed walls. An inscribed acroter with the name ΑΘΗΝΑΙΟΥ was found.
