Acropolis of Ancient Feneos - 2015
Archaia Feneos, Kalyvia (Previous)
Acropolis of Ancient Feneos. K. Kissas (Ephorate of Antiquities of Corinth) reports on the last excavation season of the Acropolis of Ancient Feneos. This season revealed new information regarding the fortification and the rituals on the E side of the N hillside of the Acropolis (fig. 1)
It was made clear that the wall and the platform were simultaneously built in the area between the W end of the wall and tower no. 5, due to similar techniques (fig. 2,3).
The entire rectangular ritual space was revealed in the E area of the excavation, clarifying the religious nature of the Acropolis (fig. 4,5). The building had three construction phases, of which the first was dated in the Archaic times and the two others in the early-middle Classical times (fig. 6a-c). The large quantity of offerings during the two phases of the ritual area’s phase indicated the worship of a female deity (fig. 7-9), which has not yet been identified.
