Argos
Argos. Anastasia Vassiliou (Ephorate of Antiquities of Argolida) reports the following:
A salvage excavation of the 25th Ephorate of Byzantine Antiquities that brought to light a new part of the early Byzantine northern cemetery of Argos. A burial chamber with at least ten cist tombs was discovered in the northern part and an extension to the southeast with two additional tombs. In the southern part of the excavation and at a lower depth, part of a second burial chamber was also found, also with cist tombs, while between the two burial chambers, eight pits and a tiled roof tomb were discovered. Most of the finds came from the northern burial chamber and consist mainly of small lekythos and lamps. The unearthed part of the cemetery could be dated, based on its movable finds, to the 5th and especially to the 6th-early 7th century. An important find for the topography of the cemetery was Wall 5 which seems to have been part of the eastern precinct of the northern cemetery.
