Kythera - Ayios Georgios sto Vouno. Aimilia Banou (University of the Peloponnese) reports the following:
This paper presents the results of the final excavation campaign (2015) at the Minoan peak sanctuary at Ayios Yeoryios sto Vouno, Kythera. Four trenches (VII-X) were dug on the southern slope of the hill. As in the previous campaigns, no architectural remains that could securely be associated with the sanctuary were revealed. The location of a probable Primary Deposit in the SE corner of Trench VII, however, taken together with previous evidence, may add support to the hypothesis of a possible access to the sanctuary from the S. Moveable finds, like miniature vessels, fragments of clay building models, and fragments of a miniature clay libation table and a stone ladle, as well as a 0.024 m. high head of a bronze statuette of a male adorant are in accordance with the picture gained from previous research and confirm the importance as well as the special character of the sanctuary during its acme in the Neopalatial period.
