Pheneos - 2013
Archaia Feneos, Kalyvia (Previous)
Pheneos, Michaela Zavadil (Austrian Academy of Sciences) reports the following:
The Greek-Austrian excavation at the citadel of Feneos revealed part of a Middle Helladic settlement under the early Hellenistic wall. The use of the site began in the Neolithic era, as indicated by the collected pottery, while during the Early Bronze Age no human activity was documented. Pheneos was repopulated during the transitional EH III / MH I phase, with a continuous human presence until the Mycenaean period. The stratigraphic sequence of the site gives information on its habitation phases, while also useful are the architectural remains and the main categories of the ceramics found. The excavation at Pheneos is particularly important as the site is one of the few known of the Middle Bronze Age in the mountainous and inaccessible central Peloponnese.
