Description
Olympia - Eileithyia Sanctuary. Georgia Em. Hadji (Z’ EPKA) reports on the excavation that took place between the NW slopes of Mt. Kronios and the Olympic Botanic Gardens. The excavation revealed two supporting pillars of an offering table (found within an area full of pyres) and an astounding multitude of object offerings (fig. 1).
The objects offered were either made of clay or metal, and some of them were even golden. They were found mostly within the disposal pit, but also in the entire area. One noteworthy finding was the bronze disc, once part of a mirror, inscribed with the name of goddess Eileithyia.
