Chandakos Street (property of N. Mari), Heraklion - 2007
Chandakos Street (property of N. Mari), Heraklion. Liana Starida, Eleni Kanaki, Periandros Epitropakis, Z. Aletras, Ch. Mpilmezi and N. Marnellou (13th EBA) report that the excavation at the N. Mari property started with trial trenching but later turned into a salvage excavation.
Two trenches (1 and 2) were opened in the S and E parts of the plot. In trench 1, three drains were detected near the surface, while on the E side of it, a well was also discovered. The W side of the trench is defined by a stone wall. During the excavation of trench 1, large amounts of glazed sherds and sherds from vessels for daily use were collected. At the NE art of the property, a large stone base was visible since the beginning of the investigation. The base bore traces of hydraulic mortar, while it was located near a drain. Part of the W wall of the structure is resting on top of a stone well. Trench 2 was opened south of the aforementioned remains, and inside it hastily-made walls along with large quantities of pottery were unearthed. The excavation did not finish during 2007.
