Heraklion - 6 Aretousas Street - 2007
Heraklion - 6 Aretousas Street (property of K. and E. Safeti-K. Petalaki). Liana Starida, Eleni Kanaki, Periandros Epitropakis, Z. Aletras, Ch. Mpilmezi and N. Marnellou (13th EBA) report that during February and March 2007 the property in 6 Aretousas Street in Herakleion was investigated.
A wall (wall I) was visible since the beginning of the research at the NW side of the property. During the removal of the surface layer a small amount of pottery dating from the Late Ottoman period until the modern times, a small bullet, and part of an Ottoman grave mark were discovered. In trench 1, at the SW part of the plot, a cesspit was excavated and at the E side of the trench a rubble wall was removed. A small amount of undecorated pot sherds from vessels for daily use were detected. Part of an unidentifiable structure made of stones and mortar was located at the NE part of trench 1. The pottery of this layer again comprised of few sherds of vessels for everyday use such as cooking and storage pots with ribbed bodies. The pottery is probably of the Late Antiquity. No architectural remains were discovered in the rest of the trench or trench 2 and the pottery in the latter was scarce as well.
