Description
Exit of Makinia Tunnel. Kilometre position 4 + 455. Foteini Saranti (ΛΣΤ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on discoveries made during construction work on the Ionian Road motorway.
A two-room Hellenistic period farmhouse was excavated, with dimensions 9.10 x 6x15m (Fig. 1), ori-ented NW and made of sandstone. The walls were preserved to a maximum height of 0.84m.
The building had an entrance on the W side, and a layer of roof tiles was found covering the floor. In Room 1, a stone press was found, and in Room 2to the SE a set of ceramic vessels. Millstones and olive presses were also found. To the S of the building, there was an extensive layer of stones and tiles, covering two parts of retaining walls in a NS and EW direction.
