Nea Ydragôgeia
Acropolis, property of V. Apostolopoulou, G. Fourfouris and mark of Ch. Drellias’ property, near Nea Idragogeia, Messolongi. Maria Gatsi (ΛΣΤ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on cleaning and exposing of sections of the ancient fortification wall.
Towards the top of the hill there was a circular fortification, widening towards the N precinct. Its total length is around 370m, and covers an area 6-7 acres. The wall (Fig. 1) in this area has been reduced to a pile of stones, whereas in other places nearby only an outer edge can be seen. At the centre of the acropolis are the remains of some building, having an entrance with a gate 1.30m wide and located between two rectangular towers. At the W end of the wall is a rectangular building oriented EW.
