En 1997 et 1998, la 2e Éphorie des antiquités byzantines a poursuivi la restauration des églises byzantines de l'île, notamment Saint-Stéphane à Chorio (v. BCH 127 [2003] Chron., p. 1049)*, Panaghia à Sykia, Saint-Georges et Sainte-Anne à Épiskopi. On a aussi nettoyé et restauré plusieurs peintures murales et icônes byzantines et post-byzantines. AD 52 (1997) [2003] B'3, p. 977, 980-981 ; 53 (1998) [2004] B'3, p. 837-841 [A. Mitsani].
