Corfu - Garitsa - 13 Alkinou Street - 2007
Garitsa, Kastrades
Corfu - Garitsa - 13 Alkinou Street, property of M. Bougdanou. Elena Bonelou (H’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on excavations conducted at this site in 2007. Three walls were identified, bound with mortar.
Two of the walls make the corner of a building of the classical period. This building suffered at least one destruction phase. The earliest remains on the site, however, are sixth century BC sherds to the E of the plot, mixed with pieces of corroded iron, and numerous amphora fragments.
The excavators postulate that this area was a commercial or storage area for the nearby port of Alkinou.
