Report
Megalopolis, El. Venizelou Street (Ο.Τ. 202, property of K. Christea). Stamatis Fritzilas (ΛΘ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the discovery of a circular construction, used either as a kiln for firing pottery or for the production of lime. With a maximum diameter of 1.75 m. and height of 1.50 m., its side walls of 0.56 m. in thickness consisted of layers of broken tiles and small stones in alternating courses. The south-eastern side had an opening of 0.5 m., which was used for feeding fuel into the kiln. Inside and around the kiln were fragments of tiles and pots, a loomweight and a part of a pithos with rope decoration. Based on the pottery the kiln has been dated to the Hellenistic period.
