Megalopolis
Junction of Lykorta Road and Kefala Road, (private property of Charalambopoulos), Municipality of Megalopoli. Stamatis Frintzilas (ΛΘ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the rescue excavation held at Megalopoli, which revealed ten tile-roof tombs, oriented NW-SE.
Eight of the aforementioned tombs were chamber tombs (Tombs no. 1, 3, 5-10) and two of them were cist graves (Tombs no. 2 and 4).
The deceased individuals were placed directly on the ground, and their burials contained no grave goods. Next to the burials, inside the same property, a survey revealed a perfume vessel dating to the late Hellenistic times (second half of the second-second half of the first century BC).
The cemetery was near the area of the Hellenistic city’s walls.
