Megalopolis cemetery (property of Municipality of Megalopolis). Stamatis Fratzilas (ΛΘ’ EΠΚΑ) reports on further excavations at the cemetery of Megalopolis in which the foundation of a public building in close proximity to the ancient theatre of the ancient city was located. The excavations located the western back wall of the building which was narrower and not as well preserved as the eastern front wall (Fig. 1). The distance between the two walls (TX1 and TX3) was about 8.30 m., with the narrower sides of the building aligned on a N-S axis. Its northern and southern sides were not located.
The roof was supported by long wooden beams, as suggested by the presence of metal nails and Laconian roof tiles. Additional roof related finds included antefix fragments on which there was plastic decoration formed by white plaster, painted with floral motifs (Fig. 2). A coin of the city of Sikyon was found as well as one from the city of Phlious, dated to the 4th c. B.C. The building was destroyed by fire in the final quarter of the 3rd c. B.C.
