Megara - 2007

Megara, Eupalinos Street (O.T. 393, property of I. Morfa). Eirini Svana (Γ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the discovery of a section of fortification wall, a trench of prehistoric pottery, two buildings, two graves, and an archaic period inscription.

The prehistoric pottery was found in a trench measuring 1m x 0.8m, at a depth 3.15m. Sherds were found of cooking pots, jugs, and phiales, all dating to the Early Bronze Age.

Graves were located in the south of the plot, including one sarcophagus and a cist grave oriented NW-SE.

The fortification wall dated to the fourth century BC, and was also found with associated pottery.

Two walled enclosures were also found, containing many ceramics of the end of the fourth and start of the third centuries BC. Nearby, a pit containing charred animal bones and sherds of the fourth and third centuries was found, and also a few vessels of the Early Bronze Age.
