Alimos - 2009
Alimos, Kalamaki
Alimos, 34 Mirtidiotissis Street and 50 Kithirion Street (O.T. 250, plot of D. Katsala and M. Polichronopoulou). Styliani Psarri (ΚΣΤ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on an excavation conducted after antiquities were found at the inspection of the present location’s building site.
To the NE, sections of the ancient road were found, with preserved width of 2.80m, length 16.30m, and defined by retaining walls. Possible wheel-marks were found on the stones, suggesting that wheeled vehicles had once passed over. A thick layer of small cobbles was found on top of the road surface (1.50-1.70m) and it is thought that such a layer was deposited during torrential flooding.
The embankment walls contained a few sherds of the Classical period, as well as blades and obsidian flakes.
