Report
Lefkakia, Property of G. and M. Tzirou. Christos Piteros (Δ' ΕΠΚΑ) reports of the discovery of architectural and funerary remains about 100 m. north-east of the church of Ipapantis, along with the foundations of an Archaic temple. These were found beneath an old house and elsewhere on the property (Fig. 1) Within the foundations of the house was an earlier single course foundation made of poros stone (Fig 2). With a preserved length of 8.50 m., it probably formed part of the north foundations of a rectangular building dated to the Archaic period. Also found was a rectangular limestone sarcophagus (1.53×1.06×0.56 m. exterior dimensions) which was used as a sink (Fig. 3). Bearing in mind the close proximity of the sarcophagus to the Archaic foundations, the excavator has suggested the presence of a burial monument, probably of Lysistratos from Argos who died during the siege of Asine.
